North Korean defector shot in November, regains consciousness

(MENAFN)A video released on Wednesday by the UN Command (UNC) in Seoul showed a North Korean wounded defector dashing to the South Korean borders followed by North Korean border guards who were only steps from shooting him.

The defector was wounded, as he was hit at least four times in the hail of bullets when he escaped on Nov.13 and was flown by a US military helicopter to a hospital in Suwon, south of Seoul.

Doctors announced on Wednesday that he woke up after undergoing two operations to extract the bullets, and was breathing well and normally.

"He is fine," lead surgeon Lee Cook-Jong stated at a press conference in Suwon. "He is not going to die."
