Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that the Islamic State terrorist group (IS aka ISIS/ISIL) which was backed by some of the regional states, has been eliminated.

He made remarks during a conference in Tehran on November 21 which was aired by the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN).

Iran's president congratulated Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the armed forces and the people of Iraq, Syria and Lebanon on the 'defeat' of the terrorist group and described the elimination of the ISIS as a huge development.

He further touched upon a trilateral summit to be held between the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey on November 22 and said the sides will discuss the future and security of Syria during the meeting.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier on Friday said that the leaders of Turkey, Iran and Russia will discuss Syrian reconciliation during the upcoming meeting in Sochi.

Ahead of the meeting of the presidents, Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Hulusi Akar and his Iranian counterpart Major General Mohammad Baqeri have already arrived in the Russian city.

In the meantime, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad, met on Monday in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi.
