ABU DHABI, 12th November, 2017 (WAM) -- During the third quarter of 2017, the Abu Dhabi Business Centre of the Department of Economic Development, DED, conducted 44,938 field inspections in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as part of efforts to combat commercial fraud and the negative phenomena in commercial activities across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
Khalifa bin Salem Al Mansouri, Acting Under-Secretary of the DED, emphasised the Department's keenness to follow up on all types of negative practices that might affect the performance of the business environment sector in the emirate, and eliminate such practices.
Al Mansouri praised the role that the DED's strategic partners in the governmental, semi-governmental bodies and the private sector play in the quest to achieve the DED's strategic goals which aim to create a competitive business environment.
He also said that the DED is currently working on implementing several strategic projects and initiatives in the field of commercial protection in coordination with its partners in the government across the emirate. These projects and initiatives aim to reinforce the market control role and the organisation of the retail grocery sector, and to fight fake trade licenses, providing commercial protection management services through smartphone apps.
The third quarter report on the commercial protection activity in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as issued by the Abu Dhabi Business Centre, noted that during inspection and control campaigns carried out across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, 12,056 fake pieces were confiscated. These included accessories, spare car-parts and food items.
During the third quarter of 2017, the Commercial Protection Department conducted a total of 44,938 field inspections, 23,720 in the city of Abu Dhabi. 17,533 and 3,658 visits were conducted in Al Ain and Al Dhafra, respectively.
During the same period, the department received 731 complaints from consumers and trademarks owners, 500 of which were received in Abu Dhabi, 223 in Al Ain and 8 in Al Dhafra. All of these complains pertained to a number of practices that violate the regulations and conditions that govern the practicing of economic activities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by commercial activities owners.
According to the report, 2,258 violation tickets have been issued, out of which 1,197 were issued in Abu Dhabi, 942 in Al Ain and 119 in Al Dhafra.
During the third quarter, DED closed 34 commercial facilities, 33 of which were in Abu Dhabi and one in Al Ain, due to violations of the commercial activities practice as per the Department Establishment Law No. 02 of 2009 and Decision No. 25 on the organisation of economic activities and the issuance of trade licenses.
The establishments included commercial facilities that practice veterinary medicine, massage centres, car tyre shops, refreshment cafes, food items, vehicle spare parts, groceries, and others.
