Security compound in Yemen taken over by militants

(MENAFN) Five soldiers were killed in Yemen after militants took over a security headquarters in southern port city of Aden Sunday morning, after they set off a big car bomb just outside the compound.

After taking over the compound, the militants deployed snipers on the roofs of the facility, covering the spot and therefore claiming the entire area and killing five Yemeni soldiers in the process, according to officials.

Meanwhile, a Saudi-led coalition launched a wave of overnight airstrikes on the rebel-held capital, Sanaa, apparently in response to a ballistic missile fired by the rebels toward an international airport on the outskirts of Riyadh, the Saudi capital.

Saudi Arabia said it shot down the missile before it hit its target, with fragments landing in an uninhabited area near an airport north of the capital.
