Woman cleared of robbing tenant in Abu Dhabi

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 48-year-old woman, who was convicted earlier of stealing valuable items including Gold chains from the room of her tenant, has been acquitted on appeal.

Official documents stated that a Filipina woman had lodged a complaint with the Police against the Asian woman after her valuable items including gold chains and others went missing from her house. The defendant had reportedly rented out a part of her apartment to the Filipina and had access to her room.

The Filipina told the police that she was suspecting her landlord because she was the only one who had a key to her room. And after investigating the matter, the woman was prosecuted and taken to court.

She, however, denied the charge of theft, stressing that she had never taken anything from the woman's room.

The Abu Dhabi Misdemeanour Court had convicted the woman based on statements from the Filipina victim. She was given three months in jail.

The Asian challenged the ruling at the Abu Dhabi Appeals Court, saying she was wrongly convicted.

She told the judge that the Filipina woman owed her money for the house rent and that she had made theft allegations against her because she wanted to dodge paying the rent. The Judge decided to cancel the verdict by the lower court and cleared the woman of theft.
