Extreme Sailing Series Act Five: Oman Air confident ahead of Hamburg Act
(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Having achieved its first Act win of the 2017 Extreme Sailing Series in Barcelona, Spain, recently after three successive third-place finishes, Oman Air will be high on confidence as it prepares for the fifth Act of the 2017 Extreme Sailing Series in Hamburg, Germany, from August 10-13.
Hamburg will be an opportunity for Oman Air to consolidate its position on the overall leaderboard as it is third with 42 points, trailing joint leaders, SAP Extreme Sailing Team and Alinghi, who have 43 each.
The Oman Air crew of skipper Phil Robertson, Pete Greenhalgh, Nasser al Mashari, James Wierzbowski and Ed Smyth, will hope to continue with their good work that took them to thrilling victory in Barcelona.
'Barcelona was a game-changer for us,' said Greenhalgh. 'We really felt something had to happen there. We had to have a top-two result to be in with a chance at the series, so coming away with a win was a goal achieved.'
Omani bowman Mashari said, 'Winning in Barcelona was great for us. We can now go into Hamburg ambitious – we are all really happy and looking forward to it.'
Following Hamburg, the series moves to Cardiff at the end of the month. The season continues in San Diego, California, in October, before concluding in Los Cabos, Mexico, at the end of November.
Also on display in Hamburg is the high-speed action of the Flying Phantom Series.
The Oman Sail entry crew comprises Thomas Normand and Ahmed al Hasani and will be seeking to improve on their current fifth place in the 13-strong fleet, following stages in Madeira and Barcelona.
