Health: Mumbai hospitals' silence zones as noisy as football stadiums: Study
According to a study by Awaaz Foundation, the honking of vehicles in the silence zones of Mumbai's hospitals makes as much noise as a packed football stadium.
Vehicular traffic makes noise up to 100.5 decibels (dB) regularly.
Noise levels outside 6 Mumbai hospitals were measured yesterday, a day prior to International Noise Awareness Day.
Traffic noise outside PD Hinduja Hospital (Mahim) was the loudest.
BMC: BMC warns Mumbai schools against commercial activities
On Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wrote to all aided and unaided schools of Mumbai, warning them against taking up commercial activities with any agency.
Schools have been directed not to make it compulsory for parents to purchase uniforms, books, stationery supplies etc. from particular vendors that they endorse.
This is applicable to all private and public schools under the BMC's jurisdiction.
Byculla Zoo: Byculla zoo may charge Rs. 100 per family of 4
The BMC is currently revising the entry fees for Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and Zoo after approximately 30 years.
According to the proposal, a family of 4 (parents and 2 children) will be charged Rs. 100, with an additional Rs. 25 for a third child.
Fees for senior citizens and physically challenged people will be waived off.
Foreign tourists will be charged Rs. 300.
Politics: Shiv Sena lashes out at Centre over petrol cost PC: .cls-2{fill:#9c9c9c;}
On Tuesday, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackerey admonished the Centre, saying that Mumbai pays one of the highest fuel prices across India.
According to Thackerey, petrol prices haven't dipped despite of the decrease in crude prices in the international market.
He demanded that the Centre must take steps to ensure uniform pricing of petrol across the country.
Transport: Mumbai's kaali-peelis to soon have a control room
The Mumbai Taximen's Union and Mumbai Taxi Association are taking the initiative of launching a control room for supervising the movement of cabs using apps for operations.
A.L. Quadros, leader of the union said the same would happen by 1st June.
The associations have submitted a report on their project to the Andheri Regional Transport Office (RTO).
