UAE- Emirati motorcyclist killed on Umm Al Quwain road

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An Emirati motor biker was killed in a road accident after he rammed into the rear of a long trailer on the Old Umm Al Quwain road; now known as the Ittihad road.

The victim, brother of Adnan Yusuf, former director general of the RAK department of public works and services, succumbed to the fatal injuries her received, mainly in his head.

Families, relatives, and neighbours of the victim performed the Funeral Prayers on his body on early Sunday morning after the Dawn Prayer; around 4am, at the Shaikh Hassan road, Al Rams area, RAK, according to Lt-Col Saeed Obaid Bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of the UAQ Police Directorate General.

The victim was in his thirties. He died late on Saturday on the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road in Umm Al Quwain in the direction of Dubai, Exit No 96. The official exclusively told Khaleej Times late on Sunday.

"Initial enactment of the accident shows that the victim, identified only as Abdul Rahman Yusuf Al Banai, lost control over his motor bike and rammed into the rear of a long trailer which was on the correct lane."

The driver of the long vehicle, Asian, sustained no injuries while the Emirati motor biker, bled excessively, he added. "The main injury was in the victim's face and head, and upper half."

The central operations room of the Umm Al Quwain police, having been alerted of the mishap, dispatched traffic patrols, paramedics, and rescue teams to the accident site in a record time.

"However, the victim, who was badly injured, could not make it and died on the spot whereas the accident has no impact on the trailer that held a Sharjah number plate."

The traffic police sources urged all drivers to observe traffic rules, mainly speed limit and remain focused on the road. "Speeding is blamed for most accidents that occurred on the roads and highways of the emirate of Umm Al Quwain."

Early in June this year, two Filipinas were killed in a traffic accident on the Etihad road in the northern emirate of Umm Al Quwain. The duo was travelling along with three others of different nationalities in a microbus when the driver lost control over the steering wheel and turned over several times.

The UAQ Traffic Police have recently launched an intensive campaign to monitor traffic flow to curb reckless driving. "More traffic patrols are deployed on the roads of the emirate to ensure road users' safety."
