UAE- EAD organises workshop on mercury emissions inventory

ABU DHABI, 31st May, 2016 (WAM) -- The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, EAD, yesterday organised a workshop to highlight the main findings of the Mercury Emissions Inventory project for Abu Dhabi, with participation from key stakeholders and experts involved in mercury emissions from the federal and local government, as well as from the private sector.

During the workshop, relevant stakeholders and experts reviewed draft reports of the preliminary results of the recently completed project. They also discussed the challenges and improvement opportunities for future work relevant to mercury pollution and mitigation. Also during the workshop, "The Role of Public Health in Mercury Pollution" was highlighted by Zayed University.

The main objectives of this project was to create a robust inventory of mercury emissions from different sources and to come up with a baseline for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in line with the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, guidelines, which also fall in-line with EAD's efforts in reducing the impact of mercury emissions on the environment and human health.
