(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the Palestinian government on Thursday signed a donation agreement totalling USD 200 million for reconstructing the southern governorates in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.
The deal was inked by KFAED's economic advisor Tareq Youssef Al-Munayyes and Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Mohammad Mustafa in the presence of Kuwait's Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Hamad Al-Duaij and some of KFAED's senior officials.
In a statement to KUNA, Al-Munayyes said that Kuwait had pledged USD 200 million during the Cairo International Conference on Palestine and Reconstructing Gaza held in the Egyptian capital last October.
The donation will finance a number of projects like the reconstruction of about 1500 housing units across all the southern governorates in the Strip as well as some infrastructure projects, he added.
For his part, Minister Mustafa praised Kuwait's supportive stances to Palestinians, underling the significance of the donation that contributes to reconstructing the Strip.
Palestinian people voiced their gratitude to the role of Kuwaiti leadership, government and people in supporting them and contributing to efforts aiming at reconstructing the Strip whose infrastructure was destroyed due to the "barbaric" Israeli attacks, he said.
He described the donation as a key pillar since it covers several humanitarian and economic sectors across the Strip.
Meanwhile, Al-Duaij told KUA that the donation is part of the Kuwaiti continuous support to Palestinians over the years under His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. (end) ab.nbs.hm
