Kosovo initial parliament election results reveal PM Thaci's party lead


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The initial results of parliamentary elections in Kosovo revealed the Democratic Party of Kosovo, led by Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, as making headway. Thaci's party has a 31 percent lead in votes and is edging Isa Mustafa's Democratic League of Kosovo, with 28 percent, the country's electoral commission revealed on local TV. The Serbian list, which represents ethnic Serbs who make up under 10 percent of Kosovo's 1.8 million population, are currently third and got nine percent, added the report. Some 1,235 candidates representing 30 parties are vying for 120 seats at the parliament - some 20 of which are ensured for minorities under the constitution. These minorities include Serbs - who are ensured 10 seats - along with Bosniacs, Turks, Romans and Egyptians - who are distributed amongst another 10 seats.
