Kuwait - Stun guns for police officers to ward off threats

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Ministry of Interior has decided to distribute stun guns to officers, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting reliable ministry sources. The decision was taken after the ministry realized that persons wanted by law and criminals threaten the lives of officers on duty. The sources explained the ministry will distribute the guns to field officers of departments concerned with public security, traffic and the Criminal Investigation Department. The guns will also be given to individuals and non-commissioned officers if the experiment to enforce law and order is successful. The decision was taken because the officers did not have any effective weapons for self-defense. However, it is seeking to reduce the use of guns unless absolutely necessary
