Romania Confirms Residential Building Was Struck By Russian Geran-2 Drone

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to The Insider, citing Romanian President Nicușor Dan, experts reached this conclusion based on a combination of technical evidence.

Dan stated that investigators found fragments bearing the inscription "ГЕРАН-2" in Cyrillic. The drone's electronic components, navigation systems, control modules, engine, and structural elements were found to be identical or nearly identical to those previously recovered from other Geran-2 drones. Analysis also revealed matching production markings, materials, and fuel characteristics.

"The fact that such an aircraft struck a residential building in Romania, causing injuries and material damage, is an exceptionally serious matter, and Russia is solely responsible for it," Dan said.

He added that the findings of the investigation would be shared with Romania's allies and with relevant structures of NATO and the European Union.

As previously reported, on the night of May 29, a drone crashed into an apartment building in Galați, a city in eastern Romania near the Ukrainian border. A 14-year-old boy was injured, and a woman suffered serious injuries.

In response to the incident, several NATO fighter jets were scrambled over the Galați area.

President Nicușor Dan subsequently announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Constanța and declared the Russian consul persona non grata.

Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine would support Romania following the Russian drone strike on the residential building and help strengthen the protection of its airspace.
