UN Women Urges Protection Of Afghan Women's Rights And Freedoms
In a report released Tuesday, the organization said women and girls have the right to dignity, personal security, freedom of movement, and participation in public life without fear or discrimination.
The report emphasized that legal frameworks should protect women from all forms of violence and guarantee equal access to justice and legal support.
UN Women also urged the Taliban to ensure that all laws and policies are designed and implemented in ways that safeguard the rights and freedoms of women and girls.
The agency said these measures should comply with international human rights conventions and legal obligations related to the protection of women and vulnerable groups.
The statement comes as Afghan women and girls continue to face severe restrictions imposed after the Taliban's return to power, including bans on secondary and higher education, employment limitations, and reduced participation in public and social life.
International organizations and rights groups have repeatedly warned that restrictions on women's education and employment are worsening Afghanistan's humanitarian and economic crisis by limiting opportunities for millions of families.
Afghanistan remains heavily dependent on humanitarian assistance, while poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, and limited healthcare access continue affecting large parts of the population, particularly women and children.
