Ma'an Development Area Projects Draw Millions In Solar And Industrial Investment
Ma'an, May 31 (Petra) -- The Ma'an Development Company (MDC), the master developer of the Ma'an Development Area, has implemented a series of strategic projects aimed at driving sustainable economic growth and generating jobs in southern Jordan, the company's chief executive said on Sunday.
Mohammad Abu Tayeh told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that Ma'an's strategic location and diverse natural resources have transformed it into a promising economic hub, particularly in solar energy, mineral wealth, and logistics.
The first solar park initiative has attracted JD350 million ($493 million) in investment, Abu Tayeh said. The project generated 1,500 temporary jobs during its construction phase and currently provides 148 permanent positions for Jordanians.
Infrastructure for a second solar park has been completed to accommodate future renewable energy projects, Abu Tayeh added, while investments in the industrial park hub have reached approximately JD80 million ($113 million).
The Ma'an Development Area was launched following a royal decree in 2007 and formalized under the Development Zones Law in 2008, aligning with His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision to leverage regional competitive advantages into development projects that stimulate investment and create employment.
MDC has generated 622 jobs across its various development hubs, which include the residential community, the industrial park, the solar hubs, and the oasis sector.
Abu Tayeh said these projects embody the concept of economic self-reliance through sustainable production. MDC continues to offer a competitive investment climate through incentives that include allowing 100% foreign ownership, income tax exemptions on investments, and streamlined single-window administrative services for investors.
