Malta's Prime Minister, Robert Abela, said on Sunday that his Labour Party had achieved a record fourth consecutive victory in a general election.

"This is a ‌victory of all the people based on the programme we presented for all the people," Abela told reporters, saying results showed his party had "won a strong mandate."

Charles Bonello, the secretary-general of the opposition Nationalist Party, conceded defeat but said his party had nevertheless succeeded in reducing the Labour Party's majority.
