Iran Slams UN Security Council Over Inaction in US War on them
(MENAFN) Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has sharply criticized the UN Security Council, accusing it of failing to respond to what he described as a war involving the United States and Israel, according to reports.
Speaking before the council, Iranian envoy Amir Saeid Iravani said the body has not met its responsibilities in addressing what he characterized as serious violations of international law. He argued that its inaction stems from obstruction by a permanent member he accused of being directly involved in the conflict.
He further stated that the United States and Israel, along with those who supported or facilitated their actions, should be held fully accountable under international law. He warned that allowing such actions to go unpunished undermines victims and poses a risk to global peace and security.
Iravani also urged the Security Council not to ignore what he described as ongoing threats from US leadership toward Iran, arguing that such rhetoric contributes to escalation and sets a dangerous precedent in international relations.
The remarks come amid continued regional instability following earlier military confrontations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, which included strikes, retaliatory attacks, and disruptions affecting strategic maritime routes.
A ceasefire was reportedly brokered earlier this year through mediation efforts, though subsequent negotiations have struggled to produce a lasting agreement, according to reports.
