China Urges End to Iran Conflict During Xi-Trump Summit in Beijing

(MENAFN) China on Friday called for an end to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, saying further escalation serves no purpose, as President Xi Jinping hosted US President Donald Trump during the final stage of their summit in Beijing.

Responding to questions about whether Iran was discussed during the talks and outlining Beijing’s stance on the conflict, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated: "There is no point in continuing this conflict, which should not have happened in the first place."

The spokesperson added that achieving a swift resolution would benefit not only Washington and Tehran, but also neighboring states and the wider international community.

According to official remarks, Beijing emphasized that renewed diplomatic engagement should continue rather than be abandoned. "To find an early way to resolve the situation is in the interest of not only the US and Iran, but also regional countries and the rest of the world," the spokesperson said.

China also called for sustained efforts aimed at lowering tensions and advancing a political solution through negotiations and consultations, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program and related disputes.

In addition, the spokesperson highlighted the need to restore maritime trade routes quickly, stressing the importance of reopening shipping channels "as soon as possible to respond to the call of the international community and jointly keep the global supply chains stable and unimpeded."
