Hamas Urges US to Intervene as Israel Continues to Breach Ceasefire

(MENAFN) Hamas on Wednesday accused Israel of intensifying military operations in Gaza in violation of a ceasefire agreement and urged the United States, along with other mediating countries, to intervene and halt the attacks.

In a statement, the group said Israeli strikes on Gaza City’s Daraj and Zeitoun neighborhoods, as well as the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, killed and injured dozens of Palestinians. It described the attacks as “a further violation” of the ceasefire agreement signed in Sharm el-Sheikh, and as an extension of ongoing hostilities.

“The government of the terrorist (Israeli) occupation continues its brutal crimes against our people in the Gaza Strip under the cover of the ceasefire agreement, without facing any response capable of deterring these dangerous violations of the agreement and international humanitarian law,” the statement said.

Hamas called on the US administration and countries involved in guaranteeing the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement to “act immediately to curb the fascist occupation and compel it to stop its aggression against innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip.”

It also appealed to the United Nations and its institutions to take action to protect Palestinians and stop what it described as the “Zionist killing machine” targeting civilians, according to reports.
