Iran Calls on US to Demonstrate Good Faith if It Seeks Diplomacy

(MENAFN) Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the United States must demonstrate “minimum good faith” if it is serious about pursuing diplomacy, according to reports.

Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told an Iranian media outlet that the international community is closely monitoring US actions and expects what he described as a more constructive approach to the crisis.

He characterized the conflict with Iran as a “war of choice” initiated by the United States, adding that its repercussions have extended beyond the region. Baghaei also criticized what he called shifting US explanations for the war, saying Washington initially referred to an “imminent threat” before later denying that position while continuing to connect the conflict to Iran’s nuclear program.

He reiterated Iran’s position that its nuclear activities are peaceful in nature, arguing that opposing claims have been used as justification for what he described as an unlawful war.

Baghaei also expressed criticism of international institutions, saying the UN Security Council has been unable to effectively respond to acts of aggression and has failed in its responsibility to maintain global peace and security, as stated by reports.
