Canada Denounces Iranian Attacks on UAE, Calls for De-escalation
(MENAFN) Canada has strongly condemned renewed missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran against the United Arab Emirates amid rising regional tensions, according to reports.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a post on the US social media platform X that Canada rejects the attacks, stating: "Canada strongly condemns Iran’s unprovoked missile and drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates."
He also expressed solidarity with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Emirati people, while praising efforts to defend civilians and protect critical infrastructure.
Carney further called for restraint, adding that Canada “reiterates its call for de-escalation and diplomacy in the region.”
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand also commented on X, stressing the need to halt attacks on civilian infrastructure. She said: “Strikes on civilian infrastructure must end – in line with international law.”
She added that Canada stands with the UAE and other Gulf partners, and will continue supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
The statements come after reports of a major fire at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone on the UAE’s eastern coast, an important energy facility. According to the Fujairah Media Office, the fire followed a drone strike allegedly launched from Iran.
The incident is part of a broader escalation in the region, with multiple countries expressing concern over the growing instability and urging a return to diplomatic engagement.
