Bangladesh Emphasizes Rights, Sovereignty in Foreign Relations
(MENAFN) Bangladesh’s foreign policy prioritizes national rights and dignity in its international engagements, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman said during remarks at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye, where he also addressed the country’s democratic transition.
According to reports, Rahman stressed that international relations should be mutually beneficial rather than one-sided, describing this principle as the foundation of Bangladesh’s diplomatic approach.
“The relationship with other countries should be mutually beneficial and should not be one-sided. So, that is the basic thrust of our policy,” he said.
He added that Dhaka’s guiding diplomatic principle is “Bangladesh first.”
“It means that we will protect our interests in our dealings with all countries of the world and that is our red line, and we do all of this within a framework of respecting one another's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, liberty and national dignity,” said Rahman.
As stated by reports, he also referred to the wider economic strain caused by disruptions in global energy routes linked to conflict in the region, noting that developing countries have been particularly affected by instability affecting key shipping corridors.
He said that stability in such situations can only be restored through collective international efforts, making his remarks during the three-day forum, which opened on Friday.
