Iran Launches Drones At U.S. Warships After Vessel Seizure
Al Jazeera reported that Iranian forces launched drones toward U.S. warships in the Gulf of Oman after an American attack on an Iranian commercial vessel.
There were no immediate reports of impacts, damage or casualties involving the drones, and the situation remains unclear.
The escalation follows a statement by Donald Trump that U.S. forces had seized a vessel flying the Iranian flag after it attempted to breach a naval blockade.
Iran confirmed that a ship returning from China had come under attack and vowed to retaliate“soon.”
Iranian state media said Tehran is currently unwilling to take part in negotiations with the United States, citing the continued blockade, shifting U.S. positions and what it described as excessive demands.
Meanwhile, Trump has ordered U.S. negotiators to travel to Pakistan, just days before the expiry of a two-week ceasefire, in an effort to revive talks.
The confrontation comes after a high-profile U.S. operation in which American forces intercepted and seized an Iranian vessel, disabling it before boarding and taking control.
The move drew strong condemnation from Tehran, which described it as a violation of international law and an act of“armed piracy.”
The incident has heightened tensions in key shipping lanes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, both critical for global energy supplies.
Iran has warned that continued U.S. pressure, including naval blockades, could affect the security of maritime traffic in the region.
Analysts say the exchange raises the risk of further escalation at sea, complicating already fragile diplomatic efforts ahead of the ceasefire deadline.
