Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani has officially been banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for a period of two years after he breached a contractual agreement by opting to play in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.

Muzarabani was signed by Islamabad United as a replacement for Shamar Joseph for the PSL 2026 before the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reached out to him with a late-season IPL opportunity, which led to his withdrawal from the PSL commitment and joining KKR for his maiden IPL stint.

Blessing Muzarabani replaced Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the KKR squad after the latter was released from the team as per the instructions from the BCCI due to heightened tensions between India and Bangladesh.

2 Years Ban for Muzarabani in PSL

Blessing Muzarabani's decision to leave his PSL contract with Islamabad United and join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) midway through the season led to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) imposing a two-year ban from the Pakistan Super League for breach of contractual obligations.

Muzarabani was signed by Islamabad United for PKR 11 million (approximately INR 36-37 lakh) as a replacement for injured Shamar Joseph. However, the KKR approached the Zimbabwean pacer and offered him a late IPL opportunity, prompting his switch from the PSL to an Indian franchise. He was reportedly roped in for INR 75 lakh, the base price for which he was unsold at the IPL 2026 mini-auction last year.

As per the statement by PCB, the board confirmed a two-year ban on Blessing Muzarabani from playing in PSL, adding that the decision was taken to uphold contractual discipline and maintain discipline within league structure, ensuring that franchise commitments are respected by all participating players.

“Professionalism in franchise-based leagues requires participants to act with transparency and consistency. Entering into a conflicting engagement while a prior binding agreement subsists represents a departure from the expected standards of the game,” PCB stated.

“Such conduct, if left unaddressed, erodes the reliability of dealings and the confidence that franchises, regulators, and stakeholders place in professional engagements,” the board added.

The PCB followed a similar stand to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has also imposed a two-year ban on overseas players for withdrawing from the IPL after getting picked by the franchises without providing any valid reason other than injuries or other exceptional circumstances.

Blessing Muzarabani made his IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians and went wicketless while conceding 34 runs in his spell of four overs. The Zimbabwean pacer made a comeback with figures of 4/41 at an economy rate of 10.25 in his four overs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, but his effort went in vain as Kolkata Knight Riders lost the match by 65 runs.
