La Lima Free Trade Zone Earns The Essential COSTA RICA Country Brand And Plans Further Investment In Cartago
Thanks to its focus on sustainability, innovation, and job creation, the La Lima Free Trade Zone has been granted the Essential COSTA RICA Country Brand license.
This recognition strengthens its position to attract foreign investment and expand its economic impact in Cartago . Over more than a decade of operation, the park has created more than 10,000 direct jobs, attracted 19 multinational companies from six countries, and surpassed $817 million in annual exports.
These results have helped revitalize the local economy and strengthen the supply chain.
Evidence of this momentum is the arrival of six new companies, which account for 50,500 m2 of specialized infrastructure and an investment exceeding $173 million, thereby generating more than 2,000 direct jobs in the province.
This progress is accompanied by a strategy that integrates various components focused on sustainability.
From the planning of the spaces to their operation, the park incorporates environmental criteria, as well as initiatives related to mobility and employee well-being.
At the local level, the impact is reflected in the participation of local talent-85% of the staff is from Cartago-as well as in the implementation of education, community, and social development programs.
This recognition adds to other international evaluations that rank La Lima among the 50 most sustainable free zones in the worl.
“This certification represents recognition of Garnier & Garnier's commitment-through Zona Franca La Lima-to a development model that integrates competitiveness, sustainability, and well-being, actively contributing to Costa Rica's positioning as a leader in responsible investment,” said Kembly Brenes, head of sustainability and corporate relations at Garnier & Garnier.
For her part, Adriana Acosta, director of esencial COSTA RICA, added:“The evolution of the free zone regime in Costa Rica reflects investors' sustained confidence in a consolidated and competitive ecosystem. La Lima Free Zone is a clear example of this transformation: a park with world-class standards“The official presentation of the license took place on March 24 at an event that brought together representatives from the Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (Procomer) and companies based in the industrial park.”
