Trump Announces Ongoing Contact with Iran

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Washington is communicating with the "right" Iranian interlocutors, emphasizing that Tehran is highly motivated to finalize an agreement aimed at ending the current conflict.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony for the US Secretary of Homeland Security, Trump remarked, "Nobody knows who to talk to, but we're actually talking to the right people," adding, "They want to make a deal so badly, you have no idea how badly they want to make a deal."

The president further revealed that Iran delivered a “big present worth a tremendous amount of money,” which he said demonstrated that the United States is engaging with the “right” individuals. While he did not clarify the nature of the gift, Trump noted it was unrelated to nuclear matters and instead concerned oil and gas.

Trump also indicated that a “number of people” are involved in the discussions with Iran. These include Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, envoy Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

According to Trump, Iran is now “talking sense,” and he asserted that Tehran “agreed they will never have a nuclear weapon.” Despite these remarks, Iran has not verified such claims, although it has consistently insisted that it does not seek to produce nuclear arms.

Trump also alleged that the US “killed all their leadership” twice and cautioned that newly appointed leaders could be “easily” targeted again. “But let's see how they turn out,” he said, further arguing that the leadership shift in Iran occurred because the US eliminated those “that created all those problems.”
