As thousands of tourists and visitors are unable to leave the country due to airspace closures, several healthcare organisations and communities have stepped in to assist those with medical needs. While some offered free consultations, others were on hand to dispense emergency medicines and tests.

The Pakistan Medical Center (PMC), located within the premises of the Pakistan Association in Umm Hurair, is offering free medical aid to passengers left stranded due to the recent airspace closures.

Dr. Nasim Sabir, Medical Director of the PMC, confirmed that the centre is opening its doors to any traveler in need. "There could be patients with chronic diseases who might not have access to their medicines, or some who might get seasonal flu," Dr. Sabir explained. "They can come to PMC, and their acute or chronic problems can be taken care of. We have 37 specialties, and the centre is open seven days a week from 8.30am to 9.30pm."

The centre has allocated a special fund to cover all treatment costs. Patients can receive free consultations, blood tests, X-rays, ultrasounds, and even minor procedures. While the centre will not provide months' worth of supplies, it will supply enough acute or chronic medication to cover a patient's extended stay in Dubai.

First inaugurated in 2020, the PMC was described as a "gift" to the UAE community by Dr. Sabir. He added that it supported by the government and the Dubai Health Authority and was also home to 62 volunteer doctors from top UAE hospitals. "It's a great example of tolerance and community service," he said.

Healthcare organisations

In addition to community groups, healthcare organisations have also rolled out free or discounted services to passengers who are stuck in the country. The Thumbay healthcare group has offered guidance and assistance to anyone with urgent medical concerns. In a poster circulated on social media, the group promised that support was available in light of the current situation.

The founder and president of the group, Thumbay Moideen, explained why they decided to offer this service.“At times when uncertainty affects communities, healthcare must remain a constant source of reassurance,” he said.“The UAE has always demonstrated remarkable resilience, compassion, and preparedness in protecting the wellbeing of residents and visitors alike. At Thumbay Healthcare, our teams stand ready to support any tourist in need of medical care, ensuring that no one feels alone when it comes to health and safety. Our commitment is simple- to care, to assist, and to serve whenever help is needed.”

To help the larger community, Aster DM Healthcare began offering free online mental well-being video consultations until Friday through the myAster app. Residents or tourists can book a confidential video consultation with a licensed psychologist from the comfort of your home. The service is accessible across the UAE.
