Dozen Dead as Blast Tears Through Fireworks Store in Chine


(MENAFN) A devastating blast tore through a fireworks retail store in central China's Hubei Province Wednesday afternoon, killing 12 people and sending shockwaves through the surrounding community, local authorities confirmed.

The explosion erupted at approximately 2 p.m. in Zhengji Town of Xiangyang City, according to emergency authorities, rapidly engulfing an area of roughly 50 square meters in fire and widespread destruction.

Emergency crews were swiftly deployed to the scene as thick smoke billowed over the area, and firefighters succeeded in fully extinguishing the blaze by 3:30 p.m. Twelve bodies were subsequently recovered from the site.

Authorities have launched a formal inquiry, and the precise cause of the explosion remains under active investigation.
