Lebanon to Enter Israel Talks with Simon Karam-Led Delegation

(MENAFN) Lebanon will move forward with negotiations with Israel through a unified delegation headed by former ambassador to the United States Simon Karam, President Joseph Aoun announced Monday.

In remarks reported by state-run media, Aoun emphasized that discussions with Tel Aviv “are separate from any other negotiations.”

He said the primary objectives of the talks are to “stop hostilities, end the Israeli occupation of southern areas, and deploy the army up to the internationally recognized southern borders.”

Framing the situation as a critical turning point, Aoun added: “Lebanon faces two options: either the continuation of war or negotiation to end this war and achieve sustainable stability.”

The diplomatic push comes amid escalating violence. Since March 2, Israeli military operations in Lebanon have killed roughly 2,300 people, injured more than 7,500, and forced over 1 million to flee their homes, according to official figures.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, set to last 10 days beginning at midnight Friday, raising cautious hopes for de-escalation.
