Kuwaiti-Bahraini Ties Reflect Enduring Unity, Cooperation
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
Kuwait, Feb 3 (KUNA) -- Bahraini Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday on an official visit aimed at reinforcing deep-rooted relations and longstanding historical ties between the two countries.
Kuwait and Bahrain share strong bonds founded on common history, unity of destiny, and convergence of views on regional and international issues, strengthening their relationship over time and underscoring a shared commitment to mutual interests.
Bilateral relations are widely described as solid and steadily advancing, supported by the wise leadership of both countries and, reflected within society in both nations.
Kuwaiti-Bahraini relations date back centuries and are characterized by political alignment, rational approaches to regional challenges, adherence to dialogue, and continuous expansion of cooperation across sectors serving both peoples.
His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah paid key visits to Bahrain, notably a state visit in February 2024, and another in December 2025 to attend the GCC Supreme Council session.
In January 2026, former Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya led Kuwait's delegation to the 12th session of the Kuwaiti-Bahraini Joint Higher Committee, reflecting sustained coordination and institutional cooperation.
Strong political relations positively influence economic and trade ties, supported by partnerships between Kuwaiti and Bahraini institutions and recent agreements expanding cooperation, including a joint environmental accord to protect natural resources.
Kuwait, in turn, supported Bahrain prior to its full United Nations membership by facilitating diplomatic training and opening its embassies to Bahraini personnel establishing overseas missions.
In April 2019, the two countries signed eight cooperation documents during the Joint Higher Committee session in Manama, covering areas including customs, e-commerce, environment, culture, agriculture, and trade development.
To strengthen security cooperation, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding in July 2023 during the first meeting of the joint security committee between their interior ministries.
The two countries maintain educational agreements promoting academic exchange, with universities in both states hosting students from Kuwait and Bahrain across diverse disciplines.
At the popular level, relations are marked by close kinship ties, shared traditions, and strong social cohesion, reflecting deep-rooted cultural affinity between the two societies.
Bahrain currently chairs the Gulf Cooperation Council and holds non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2026-2027, reflecting international confidence in its balanced diplomatic approach. (end)
