Budget 202627 Reinforces India's Ambition As Global Electronics, Semiconductor Hub: ESSCI

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Feb 2 (KNN) The Union Budget 2026–27 has strongly reinforced India's ambition to emerge as a global hub for electronics and semiconductors, with a clear thrust on skills-led growth, said Saleem Ahmed, Officiating Head, Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI).

Reacting to the Budget, Ahmed said the launch of India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, with its focus on indigenous equipment, materials, full-stack intellectual property, and industry-driven research and training centres, is expected to reshape skill requirements across the semiconductor value chain.

He noted that the initiative presents a critical opportunity to build a future-ready workforce in areas such as chip design, fabrication support, advanced packaging, testing, electronics manufacturing services (EMS) and allied domains.

The enhanced allocation under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, he said, will further deepen India's electronics ecosystem and generate strong demand for skilled manpower across consumer electronics, automotive electronics, industrial electronics, and emerging technologies including Internet of Things (IoT), AI-enabled hardware and smart devices.

From a skilling perspective, Mr. Ahmed said this expansion places a strong mandate on ESSCI to align National Occupational Standards, curricula and certification frameworks with next-generation manufacturing practices, automation, quality systems and supply chain competencies.

He also highlighted that the Budget's emphasis on industry-led training centres and education-to-employment alignment reinforces the role of Sector Skill Councils in bridging the gap between policy intent and shop-floor readiness.

ESSCI, he said, remains committed to working closely with industry, government and training partners to scale up skilling, reskilling and upskilling initiatives aimed at supporting high-value jobs and sustainable careers for India's youth.
