Trump Directs Against Federal Intervention In Protests In Democratic States
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
WASHINGTON, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump said he directed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem not to deploy federal forces to protests in Democratic-led states under any circumstances unless state officials request assistance.
However, in a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stressed that the federal government will provide protection for federal buildings subjected to any attacks.
Trump said he issued strict instructions to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol to act with utmost firmness in protecting federal property.
Addressing local governments, Trump said they must protect their state and local property, adding that it is also their duty to safeguard federal property, buildings, parks, and other facilities.
He condemned protesters who stormed a federal building in Eugene, Oregon, on Friday, causing what he described as extensive damage.
Earlier this week, the White House hinted at a possible withdrawal or reduction of Border Patrol personnel deployed in Minnesota amid rising tensions following the fatal shooting of US citizens by immigration agents. (end)
