Israel Carries Out New Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Despite Ceasefire

(MENAFN) Israeli air attacks struck multiple locations in southern Lebanon on Friday evening, hitting areas near Zahrani and other rural zones despite an existing ceasefire, according to reports.

Accounts said several strikes targeted villages across the Zahrani district, with the sound of explosions reportedly heard as far as the coastal city of Sidon. Additional raids were also reported in a valley stretching between the areas of al-Mseilih, Tuffahata, and al-Najjariyah in the south of the country.

Reports indicated that Israeli warplanes began a wave of heavy bombardment at around 7:30 p.m., striking the valley between the towns of Zefta and al-Nmeiriyeh, as well as valleys separating the towns of Azza and Kafra.

The intensity of the attacks reportedly caused power outages across several areas, including Tuffahata, al-Mseilih, al-Najjariyah, al-Dadawiyah, and al-Maamariyah.

Two people were said to have suffered minor injuries after strikes hit a vehicle showroom and an auto repair workshop in the town of Daddawiyeh within the Zahrani district.

The Israeli military said the raids were aimed at Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, according to statements.

Israeli violations of the ceasefire have reportedly resulted in hundreds of Lebanese being killed or injured, while Israeli forces continue to occupy five Lebanese hilltops seized during the most recent war, along with other territories held for decades.

Israel launched military operations against Lebanon in October 2023, later escalating them into a full-scale war in September 2024. The conflict has reportedly left more than 4,000 people dead and around 17,000 wounded.
