Turkish, Iranian Diplomats Hold Talks

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday discussed measures to ease persistent regional strains.

According to Turkish diplomatic sources, during a phone conversation, Fidan emphasized the significance of dialogue as a means to lessen regional instability.

This exchange came after an earlier call between the two ministers on Tuesday, marking their second discussion within a single day.

Iran has been shaken by waves of demonstrations since late last month, beginning on December 28 at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, sparked by the sharp decline of the Iranian rial and worsening economic hardships. The protests later spread to several other urban centers.

Government authorities have accused the US and Israel of supporting what they describe as “riots” and “terrorism.”

While no official casualty figures have been released, a US-based news agency estimates that fatalities have surpassed 2,550, including both security personnel and demonstrators, with more than 1,134 injured.
