Machado Says She Dedicated Nobel Peace Prize to Trump

(MENAFN) Venezuelan opposition figure and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado stated on Monday that her last direct conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump occurred in October.

"I actually spoke with President Trump on October 10, the same day the prize was announced, not since then," Machado told a news agency.

Trump declared that American military operations on Saturday led to the detention of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his spouse, First Lady Cilia Flores.

He also vowed to maintain U.S. authority over the nation temporarily, deploying American forces if required.

Regarding the award, Machado explained that she dedicated it to Trump immediately after receiving it.

The Nobel Committee granted Machado the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her work defending democratic freedoms and encouraging a nonviolent shift from authoritarian governance to democracy in Venezuela.

"I believe he (Trump) deserved it in October. Imagine now! I think he has proven to the world what he means. I mean, January 3 will go down in history as the day justice defeated a tyranny. It's a milestone," she said.

When questioned about whether she had offered to hand the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump, Machado clarified that it has not yet occurred.

"I certainly want to give it to him and share it with him," she said.
