US conducts strike on vessel in Eastern Pacific Ocean

(MENAFN) A US military operation targeted a vessel suspected of involvement in drug smuggling in the Eastern Pacific Ocean on Monday, according to official accounts.

The action was carried out in international waters and was authorized at the highest levels of the US defense leadership, reports indicated. The vessel was said to be operating along routes commonly associated with narcotics trafficking in the region.

"Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations.

"Two male narco-terrorists were killed. No U.S. military forces were harmed," it said.

The incident reportedly forms part of ongoing efforts to counter illicit drug trafficking activities across maritime corridors in the Pacific.
