Over one thousand people get displaced from South, North Kordofan in Sudan

(MENAFN) More than 1,200 people have been newly displaced from South and North Kordofan in southern Sudan due to rising insecurity, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported Sunday.

Between Wednesday and Friday, 780 people fled the city of Dilling in South Kordofan as security conditions worsened, while 510 others were displaced from the village of Al-Sanjouqi in North Kordofan’s Umm Dam Haj Ahmed locality. The displaced have relocated to various sites within the Umm Dam Haj Ahmed and Sheikan localities.

The IOM noted that between October 26 and December 17, over 50,000 people were forced to leave their homes across Sudan’s three Kordofan states amid ongoing clashes between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The conflict, which began in April 2023, has killed thousands and displaced millions, with the RSF controlling much of Darfur and the army holding most of the remaining 13 states, including the capital, Khartoum.
