Northrop Grumman Enhances F-16
(MENAFN) US defense contractor Northrop Grumman has introduced a sophisticated electronic warfare enhancement for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, aiming to ensure the widely operated fourth-generation fighter remains "lethal and survivable" in contemporary battle scenarios, officials announced Thursday.
To confront escalating dangers, the firm is advancing its Integrated Viper Electronic Warfare Suite (IVEWS), a built-in radio-frequency defense system tailored specifically for the F-16.
This technology is designed to neutralize increasingly advanced radar-directed threats that span broader ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum and employ shifting or mobile strategies.
The company’s corporate vice president and regional executive for Europe and the Middle East emphasized the jet’s lasting significance in missions such as air-to-air engagements, close support operations, combat rescue, and strategic deterrence during a press briefing, which Anadolu attended virtually.
Joseph Guastella stated, "The F-16 has been the workhorse of the global fighter fleet for decades," adding, “But every one of those missions depends on survivability. If the jet can’t survive in a high-end fight, it can’t deliver its effects.”
Although fifth- and sixth-generation aircraft like the F-35, F-22, and forthcoming B-21 provide state-of-the-art features, company officials stressed that these models are manufactured in restricted quantities.
