Patel's Full Role Could Have Altered J & K History: LG
The Sardar@150 Unity March was organised to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel,
Srinagar ~ Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said Jammu and Kashmir's history“would have been entirely different” had Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel overseen its integration in 1947, as he joined the 'Sardar@150 Unity March' in Vadodara to underscore Patel's role in shaping a cohesive Indian Union.
Addressing a gathering on the theme“Kashmir, Hyderabad and Sardar”, the LG said Patel's leadership in integrating princely states-most notably Hyderabad-stood as a testament to his“clarity of purpose and firmness of action”, qualities he said were indispensable in shaping a unified India. Sinha asserted that the historical trajectory of Jammu and Kashmir might have been“entirely different” had Patel been entrusted with its full integration in 1947.
“Sardar Patel had strongly opposed Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's approach towards Jammu and Kashmir and was against taking the matter to the United Nations. His decisive intervention would have altered the course of history,” Sinha said, adding that Patel had“categorically rejected” any concession of J&K territory to Pakistan.
ADVERTISEMENTThe LG described Patel as the“architect of modern India”, whose commitment to unity, equality and social justice continues to underpin the nation's socio-political framework. He said Patel embodied“self-confidence, self-respect and moral courage”, values that remain essential to India's aspirations for stability and development.
Linking Patel's legacy to contemporary governance, Sinha asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was giving concrete expression to Patel's vision.“The abrogation of Article 370 realised the long-held national resolve of one flag, one constitution and one leader,” he said.
Sinha also highlighted several central initiatives-One Nation, One Tax; One Nation, One Ration Card; One Nation, One Health Card; One Nation, One Grid; the National Education Policy; PM Gati Shakti; and Kashi-Tamil Sangamam-as transformative measures aimed at strengthening the country's institutional and cultural unity.
