Abomey-Calavi, Benin: A Chinese company on Tuesday donated several batches of information technology (IT) equipment and anti-malaria drugs to the University Hospital of Abomey-Calavi/So-Ava in southern Benin.

The donation, comprising 40 laptops and several cartons of anti-malaria medicine, is part of the "100 Companies in 1,000 Villages" initiative.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Benin Zhang Wei hailed the cooperation between Chinese and Beninese enterprises.

"The embassy has always been committed to encouraging and supporting Chinese companies operating in Benin in fulfilling their social responsibilities," he said.

Zhu Chenyang, representative of Power Construction Corporation of China, said the donated medicines could help alleviate patients' suffering and support their recovery.

The IT equipment, he added, will strengthen the hospital's capacity to carry out its noble mission of saving lives.

Receiving the donation, Abomey-Calavi Mayor Angelo Ahouandjinou extended his sincere thanks to the Chinese company. "Through this donation of IT equipment, you once again demonstrate your commitment to local development as well as a strong sense of social responsibility," he said.
