KABUL (Pajhwok): Following a Pajhwok Afghan News report about the lack of educational infrastructure in Jawzjan, the Ministry of Education (MoE) says it is striving to address this issue nationwide, including in the northern province.

On November 16, 2025, Pajhwok published a report titled“Insufficient educational infrastructure: 122 Jawzjan schools still without buildings.”

The report quoted the provincial education director Mawlawi Lal Jan Rashid as saying that out of the province's 365 active schools, 122 still lacked buildings and operated in rented houses, under tents, or in open spaces, serving 25,754 students.

Experts cited in the report described standard classrooms and a healthy learning environment as vital for students' learning and well-being and called for urgent action by the government and aid-giving organisations.

Five days after the Pajhwok report, Mansour Ahmad Hamza, MoE spokesman, posted a video clip on his X handle addressing the issue.

In the video, he said:“MoE is striving to provide a standard, healthy, and safe learning environment for students. In recent months, 179 school buildings and six religious seminaries have been constructed across 21 provinces at a cost of 2.177 billion afghanis.”

He added that over the past four years, 1,315 new school buildings have been constructed nationwide, while 3,000 schools have been reconstructed. Construction is ongoing for 26 new schools, and 181 others are under repair.

Regarding Jawzjan, Hamza told Pajhwok that creating a standard educational environment was the ministry's priority, with efforts ongoing to address the challenges. Construction work has recently been started on three new school buildings in the province, while 11 schools are under renovation. In the past four years, 20 new schools have been built and 200 schools renovated in Jawzjan.
