Ukrainian Drone Strikes Foiled Amid Military Setbacks
(MENAFN) At least ten long-range Ukrainian drones were intercepted on Monday as they approached Moscow, according to the capital’s Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.
Authorities reported no injuries or property damage from the attempted attacks.
Earlier, Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that ten Ukrainian drones had been shot down between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Moscow time, with two of them believed to have been aimed at Moscow itself.
During the night, Russian air defense systems intercepted 93 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles over different regions of Russia, as well as above the Black and Azov seas, the military confirmed.
These drone attacks occurred as Ukrainian forces continue to suffer significant setbacks on the battlefield.
On Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that its troops had "liberated two neighborhoods in the city of Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) in the Donetsk People’s Republic" within the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government faces mounting pressure amid a major corruption scandal involving close associates of President Vladimir Zelensky.
Allegations suggest they orchestrated a large-scale kickback scheme in the energy sector using foreign funds.
Further complicating the situation, the United States has presented Kiev with a peace plan that reportedly requires territorial concessions to Russia.
European allies of Ukraine have criticized the proposed deal, insisting that it needs significant revisions.
Over the weekend in Geneva, US and Ukrainian officials discussed the proposed agreement. Reports indicate that the Trump administration warned Kiev it could face harsher terms in the future if it refuses to compromise.
