Erdogan Criticizes Response to Gaza Violence Against Women

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized the global response to the violence against women in Gaza, stating it has not been given the attention it truly deserves.

Speaking at an event in the Turkish capital, Ankara, on Tuesday, in observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Erdogan emphasized that the identities of both the aggressor and the victim have influenced the tone and nature of the international response.

Erdogan pointed out that the pressure on Israel has not been proportional to the severity of its actions, specifically in relation to the ongoing violence in Gaza.

He remarked, “Two-thirds of the 70,000 Palestinians martyred in the Gaza genocide were, unfortunately, women and children. These are alarming numbers for those with a conscience.”

The Turkish president reaffirmed Turkey's commitment to defending justice, regardless of the identities of either the oppressor or the oppressed.

“We will defend what is right regardless of the identity of the oppressor or the oppressed, and we will voice the truth loudly on every platform,” he stated. Erdogan also called out those who judge the situation based on the identities of the victims and perpetrators, asserting that they are equally complicit in the violence and oppression as the criminals themselves.

Additionally, Erdogan underlined that any attack on women’s lives, property, and dignity is inherently inhumane and must be resisted unconditionally.

He emphasized that combating such violence is a moral responsibility shared by all human beings. “Yet, every attack on women’s life, property, and dignity is an inhumane act that must be resisted without reservation,” he declared.

He further expressed Turkey's disapproval of the way gender-based violence is often politicized and used in ideological conflicts.

“We do not approve of an inherently human issue such as violence against women being used as fodder for ideological battles or as a tool in turf wars,” Erdogan concluded.
