US Expected to Initiate Direct Dialogue with Russia
(MENAFN) Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov stated on Monday that Washington is anticipated to reach out to Moscow “soon” to deliberate the US-crafted peace initiative for Ukraine face-to-face, while emphasizing that no firm arrangements for such negotiations have been set.
Addressing journalists in Moscow, Ushakov explained that Russia has received “signals” from the US hinting at potential engagement, yet no formal outline has been provided regarding who might travel to Russia or when any talks could commence.
“I would assume that it is natural to expect the US to contact us for an in-person meeting and begin discussions,” he remarked, as cited by a state-run news agency.
“But there is no definitive agreement yet. We have not received a specific proposal about who intends to come and when.”
Ushakov added that “much speculation” still surrounds the American blueprint and its rumored variations, stressing that Moscow places confidence only in information communicated officially.
“Mr. Rubio said the Geneva talks with the Ukrainians were satisfactory, and he mentioned 28 points, and also 26 points. There is a lot being circulated. It is unclear who to believe,” he said.
“But we believe what we saw, what was conveyed to us through the appropriate channels.”
He confirmed that Russia is acquainted with one iteration of the US proposal that corresponds with understandings achieved during the Alaska discussions earlier this year.
