Trump reports good phone call with Xi

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Monday that his phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping was “very good,” announcing that he agreed to travel to Beijing in April, according to reports.

In a message shared on his social media platform, Trump explained that the two leaders touched on “many topics including Ukraine/Russia, Fentanyl, Soybeans and other Farm Products,” noting that both sides “have done a good, and very important, deal for our Great Farmers — and it will only get better.”

He said the discussion came after what he called their “highly successful meeting in South Korea” last month, adding that “there has been significant progress on both sides in keeping ... agreements current and accurate.”

Trump added, “To that end, President Xi invited me to visit Beijing in April, which I accepted, and I reciprocated where he will be my guest for a State Visit in the U.S. later in the year.”

He also stressed, “Our relationship with China is extremely strong!” noting that both leaders agreed regular communication is essential.

According to Chinese accounts, Xi reiterated that Taiwan’s return to China is a core element of the post–World War II international framework. He said both countries should work together to uphold the outcomes of the war, as reported by state media.

Meanwhile, Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi told lawmakers on Nov. 7 that a Chinese attack on Taiwan could legally constitute a “survival-threatening situation,” potentially enabling Japan to “exercise the right of collective self-defense.” Her remarks drew strong criticism from Beijing, which responded by advising against travel to Japan and reinstating restrictions such as a ban on seafood imports, among other measures.
