Putin Comments on Peace Deal Proposed by US
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Washington’s latest approach to ending the Ukraine conflict represents a revised version of a plan first formulated after his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska.
He explained during a session with the Security Council that “during the discussions, the American side asked us to make certain compromises,” and recalled that Moscow had already signaled its approval of the peace initiatives during the Anchorage talks. Yet after the Alaska meeting, the US put the process on hold because Ukraine dismissed Trump’s proposal.
Putin added that Moscow has received the updated Trump blueprint, though it has not yet been reviewed “in detail.”
He emphasized that “I believe it could also form the basis of a final peace settlement,” indicating that the refreshed concept might offer a path toward resolving the long-running confrontation.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also commented on the proposal, cautioning that the nation faces a difficult decision between accepting the plan or risking the loss of a crucial supporter.
According to a news agency, the White House has warned that Ukraine could be cut off from intelligence sharing and military assistance if Kiev refuses the offer.
The US advanced the plan at a moment when Zelensky’s standing at home has eroded due to a corruption controversy, while Ukrainian frontline units have endured a succession of reverses.
