Syria Surpasses Iraq as Türkiye’s Top Flour Export Market

(MENAFN) Syria emerged as Türkiye's primary flour export destination in July, ending Iraq's 15-year streak as the top buyer, according to a statement from the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Eurasia on Thursday.

"Türkiye's export champion, the flour sector, increased its exports by 39% to 241,000 tons in October and regained momentum in the last quarter of the year," the statement highlighted.

In the January–October timeframe, flour exports reached 1.93 million tons, generating $716 million in revenue.

Eren Gunhan Ulusoy, President of IAOM Eurasia, mentioned that the industry targets concluding the year with 2.4 million tons of flour exports. He also pointed out that as of July, Iraq had lost its leading position for the first time in 15 years, while Syria became Türkiye's top flour export market.

Ulusoy added that the sector plans to double its flour exports to Syria by the year’s end.

However, due to heightened investments in Iraq’s flour industry and the introduction of a tax tariff, Türkiye’s average 10-month exports dropped from 1 million tons to 350,000 tons.
