Uzbekistan And Turkmenistan Turn Spotlight On New Energy Co-Op Goals
The decision was reached during a meeting held in Tashkent, attended by Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov; Turkmenistan's Minister of Energy, Annageldi Saparov; and Maksat Babaev, Chairman of the national oil and gas company Turkmengaz. The meeting was also attended by the heads and senior representatives of fuel and energy enterprises.
During the discussions, it was noted that bilateral relations, including cooperation in the energy sector, have been steadily and effectively advancing thanks to the initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Moreover, it was emphasized that, within the framework of the 7th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia held in Tashkent, a substantial package of bilateral agreements was adopted. These agreements aim to strengthen the strategic partnership and further expand the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's state visit to Uzbekistan took place on November 16–17, during which he also participated in the 7th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. During this visit, both parties reaffirmed their strong and mutually advantageous cooperation in the energy sector, agreeing to advance larger-scale projects, including the joint development of promising energy deposits.
In recent years, bilateral trade between the two countries has more than doubled, surpassing $1 billion. Both sides acknowledged the potential to further increase this figure to $2 billion through the diversification of traded goods and the full utilization of the free-trade regime.
