Landslides in Central Java Claim Eighteen Lives


(MENAFN) Indonesian officials reported on Monday that at least 18 individuals lost their lives in two separate landslides across different areas of Central Java, while 33 others remain unaccounted for.

The fatality count from the landslide that hit the city of Cilacap in Central Java province has climbed to 16 as rescue operations entered their fifth day on Monday, according to a local broadcaster.

Muhammad Abdullah, the Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator, stated that three additional bodies were recovered on Monday, though seven people are still missing.

Additionally, the head of the regional disaster management agency reported that in Banjarnegara regency, also in Central Java, two bodies have been found.

Authorities fear that 26 more individuals may be trapped beneath the soil following a landslide on Saturday.
