Indian Security Forces Gun Down Three Maoist Rebels In Chhattisgarh


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW DELHI, Nov 16 (KUNA) -- Three Maoist rebels were gunned down in an encounter with security personnel in Sukma district of central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, Indian police said on Sunday.
The Press Trust of India said quoting Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan that the District Reserve Guard launched a search operation after receiving inputs about the presence of Maoist rebels in the hills of Tumalpad village along the border of Bhejji and Chintagufa police station.
A gunfight broke out and intermittent exchange of fire lasted for a long time and in the subsequent search bodies of three Maoist militants were recovered from the spot. The forces also recovered a rifle, Barrel Grenade Launchers, other weapons and explosives from the encounter site.
Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattilingam, said that the Maoist movement is now in its final stage in the Bastar region, and it has no option but to shun violence and embrace the governmentآ's rehabilitation policy.
Maoist rebels are active in various Indian states including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar and Maharashtra. The banned group is waging an armed struggle for decades against the government and its developmental projects in order to establish a communist society toppling the current system which they call as semi-feudal and semi-colonial.
